EDC or Every Day carry is a concept I came across fairly recently, I used to just think of it as being prepared for things that may happen. No matter where in the world you live, having a few useful items with you at all times can help with challenges you may face on a day to day basis.
Living in London I have to be very careful around what I carry as anything that may be seen as a weapon can cause a world of pain. I also want to know I can get out if I'm trapped in lift, tube train or indeed my office if I need to.
Below is my London EDC, always neatly tucked away in my stylish man bag. I don't pretend its the best out there, but feel free to review and see if it gives you any ideas....
From the top left.
Lighter, screwdriver, multi-tool, energy 'shot', spare batteries (wrapped in elastic band), Surefire E2D torch (probably one of the best torches in the world ever!), London A-Z map, Paracord bracelet, bandanna, latex gloves (I carry a handful), iPhone (not an Apple whore, but do admit its a good phone), pens and a moleskin notebook.
First aid kit. - Needs a post of its own, but basically it's a off the shelf kit with a lot of additions. Contains plasters, bandages etc as well as a number of medicines. Alcohol hand rub, wallet (new present to myself), keyring containing a baby Spiderco knife, a small multitool, a mini maglight and some more paracord (posting on knots coming up) finally two USB drives containing my essential files.
For more EDC information than you can possibly take in (in a good way) see the excellent EDC Forums link in the sidebar.
Good stuff,
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest a fake wallet with dead cards inside.
Very good indeed, but to me a "man-bag" is all the eggs in one basket; a target for a thief, something for the police to spot for a rummage, plus they look gay. Pockets for me. If you're cautious about carrying a weapon, be careful; the big Multitool has a locking blade. A Police Caution and having it confiscated? No ta! Having said that, it's an excellent kit. If you decide that the bag could be lost etc then (if it was me) I would replace the Swiss key, big multitool and small screwdriver with a Leatherman Squirt S4; ditch the big torch and keep the Mini maglite; lose 3 pens; lose the spare batteries; replace the alcohol gel with alcohol wipes which fit in a wallet; put a needle and a wrap of dental floss in my wallet.
ReplyDeleteEnergy tablets and rubber gloves are something I hadn't thought of and will be added to my kit, thanks. A square of kendal mint cake inside rubber gloves in watch-pocket of jeans. Good! Also two USB drives; I only have one, must get another for a back-up.
NB: If you wear a tie, the Bug'll fit nicely inside the knot. And www.slinging.org shows an interesting use for paracord, if you are interested in knots and carrying a legal "non-weapon" weapon.
Hello. Stumbled upon this on google imgs but like the gear. It's nice to know there are other prepared londoners! Anyway, I carry a leatherman Fuse with no blade. It's a model from leatherman and is perfectly legal (the cops may not like it, but it is defensible!)
ReplyDeleteGood day
